Small Water Bodies Science from Royal Irish Academy

8th January 2015

Small water bodies are the focus of the latest edition of the journal Biology and Environment: Proceedings of the Royal Irish Academy.

Small water bodies like ponds, streams and ditches have traditionally been overlooked, their importance not understood.  Little research has been done on their wildlife and role in how freshwater systems work, and this has led to big gaps in policies that should be protecting them.  These habitats have always been the focus of our work, and we are very pleased to see others working on them, and sharing their knowledge.
